Identifying Your Luggage

Anyone who has traveled recently would have noted that there are no security personnel checking baggage on the way out of the airport. While in the past security would check to make sure that you were leaving with the correct luggage and the correct number of bags, the airlines no longer have the personnel needed to insure that no one but you leave with your bags. Therefore, it is impertinent that your luggage is correctly identified. The best and safest way is to have your luggage monogrammed. Monogramming is permanent and cannot easily be removed. This makes your luggage undesirable should someone wish to dispose of your luggage. No one can claim that it is their luggage either, without showing proof that they have the same monogram as yours. Monogramming is applied by burning the initials on with gold or silver lettering. While you still see the red ribbon tied on luggage, it is easy to remove these, while the imprint of monogramming is virtually impossible to remove.

Because of the popularity of discount luggage in black, traveling with another color will help you to spot your luggage more easily. Women have the largest selection available to them because they can choose among the beautiful tapestries as well as the unusual color combinations. The many bright colors choices that are available today are especially desirable because they stand out in a crowd. Black is and has always been the most popular color chosen because it stays cleanest and looks newer for a longer period of time. Those that travel a great deal seem to always choose black luggage. And more and more of us are traveling a great deal! For this reason, many travel accessories have been developed today to make that black luggage stand out on the carousel.

Luggage tags are a natural addition to your luggage. These leather goods identify your case with your name and address and telephone number should your luggage be misdirected. Additionally, the array of colors and patterns that tags are available in will help your baggage to stand out. Upright luggage usually has a handle on top, and one on the side for easy handling, so it's smart to put two tags on every piece. That way at least one tag will show when it comes around on the luggage carousel. The tags today are designed to keep your address secure, while only your name is readily available. Bright colored handle "wraps" are another way to tell your luggage from everyone else's. These are Velcro wraps in every conceivable color that simply change your black handle to another bright color. Some of these handle wraps have a place for your name and address underneath to aid with identification. Once again, it's best to use two on every bag. Try to keep all of your bags identified with the same color combination. This way, you know what colors you're looking for and it's easy to spot them.

The new TSA locks are also available in bright colors. These are the only locks you can use at airports because they can be opened with a master key. Security personnel carry this master key only, and these keys are not readily available to anyone but TSA security personnel. Brands such as Mosaic and Prolite come with these special locks. The locks have the special TSA emblem on them, so you know they are the only locks permitted to be used. You will be asked to remove any other lock or the airport security personnel will cut them off. You can use these locks on the main zipper and on any of the outside pockets also. The locks not only help you to identify your bags, but keep your bag from opening during the course of travel. Bright colored luggage straps are also now available to make your bag stand out. These were originally designed to keep over-stuffed bags from popping open. Luggage straps may still assist with that problem, but today they are used more as a way to identify your lightweight luggage. They come in all of the bright colors including neon colors and in many patterns. They are easy to attach with a seatbelt style buckle. They go through the handle so they don't slide off during travel. For additional protection, they are also available with TSA locks.
